Senior Chemist ( Coatings)
(Singapore)
Responsibilities:
•Work with managers on specific laboratory programs aimed at providing responsive and pro-active customer service and technical service.
•Participate in the planning of projects and work with minimal supervision.
•Assume full responsibility for the outcome of assigned projects.
•Establish and maintain effective and credible relationships with key customers and establish a working relationship with sales people that will result in requests for customer interaction.
•Where appropriate, participate in strategic account team(s), managing significant, strategic account interactions.
•JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•1. Assist relevant Account, Marketing and Technical Managers in defining the technical needs/demands of the business and the strategies/plans/actions needed to meet and exceed customer expectations in these areas.
•2. Seek and maintain direct contact with selected customers, as agreed with appropriate Commercial, Marketing, and Technical Managers and use this responsibility to enhance the perception of customers. Establish professional and technical credibility with them in that will result in an outcome of requests from sales people for customer interaction.
•3. Manage assigned staff and own time to fulfil the strategies/plans outlined above. This will involve the evaluation of new and existing products, demonstrating product performance, general applications support and resolution of customer complaints. It includes planning, preparation and implementation of training programs, technical seminars/workshops and market support programs. The output will be of high quality and unambiguous and suitable for wide circulation.
•4. Cooperate with the Technical Manager in ensuring day to day activities are consistent with and focused on long term objectives as defined in the laboratory plan. Use project planning tools to set objectives, timelines, costs, milestones and obtain feedback to plan and agreement from relevant parties prior to commencement of work.
•5. Establish and maintain an effective rapport with technical peers in each of the Asia Pacific and World Wide Technical Centres and use this relationship to help develop a spirit of cooperation and commitment.
•6. Conduct performance reviews and develop career paths for staff.
•7. Accept responsibility for the control of at least one general Laboratory activity aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Laboratory, or the capability of the technical group as a whole.
•8. Where assigned, work effectively as an active member of a cross functional, strategic account team, responsible for managing and fulfilling the day-to-day needs of nominated strategic accounts.
•9. Accept responsibility for own and colleagues’ safety using Safety principles.
Requirements:
•Bachelor of Science degree or Advanced Diploma and a minimum of 6 years commercial coatings laboratory experience and 2 years supervisory experience.
•Alternatively, a Masters Degree/Doctorate and minimum 2 years commercial laboratory and supervisory experience.
•Good written, oral and presentation skill in English. Other language skill is beneficial.
•Good communication and interpersonal skill.
•Good sense of business acumen is preferable.
•Efficient in IT and communication tools.
•Business travel outside of Singapore is required.
